  ON PARASITIC SIGNALS

Re your story on self-oscillating preamps (CGC #400),
I remember well a similar situation in the mid-1960s.

We installed a CATV system in a small town (approximately
200 homes) near my home town. We ended up calling in the FCC to
close down a home-grown TV distribution "system" that was built
around 450-ohm ladder line and off-the-shelf antenna preamps.
It was an "ad hoc" master antenna system that ran all over
town and radiated like crazy. So the FCC shut it down. I
remember that the Commission engineer was armed with a revolver.

MORE INFO ON THE LASER COMMUNICATOR

For those interested in detailed information on the red
pointer laser communicator mentioned in CGC #400, see 73 magazine
for June-August 2000. Chuck, WB6IGP, has written a three-part
article on the device for the Above & Beyond column. He built
the laser communicator used by W6VR on Field Day, which was a
copy of the first unit built by Kerry, N6IZW.

  OUTSTANDING PHOTOS

Every once in awhile, there is a simple and elegant picture
posting on the web, like this one:

These nature scenes from California's Mammoth Mountain
have nothing - and everything - to do with broadcasting.

  Enjoy!
