  DAVID REA PASSES AWAY

It is with much sadness that I announce that my friend and
business partner, David Rea, died on Tuesday of an apparent heart
attack. He was 39 years old. David was the owner/founder of
Spectrum Analysis Communications Engineering and has acted as CE
of many radio stations in Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside
counties including KOCM (103.1), KSRF(103.1), KEZY (95.9),
KORG (1190), KWIZ (96.7), KWIZ-AM (1480), KCAL-FM (96.7) and
KUCI (88.9).

I will forward any condolence messages to David's mom,
dad and grandmother.

  Mike Duffy, MDuffy@eBuilt.com

  ______

David was a heck of a nice guy, and you won't find a cleaner,
better maintained facility than my Costa Mesa studio. He was
meticulous and always did a great job.... He was in good health
but had been fighting a virus for the past few weeks. We are
saddened at his passing.

"KRLA" CALL SIGN TO BE USED BY NEW INSPIRATION

Two CGC Communicator readers have concluded that the call
sign "KRLA" will be used by New Inspiration Broadcasting Company
which one reader asserts is Salem.

Be your own detective. Go to:

  http://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/callsign/prod/main.html

Hit the Query button. On the new page, insert the call sign
KRLA and hit the Submit button.

KABC-TV SHIELDED FROM LAWSUIT IN THE ALPERT ENG ACCIDENT

Last week, the question arose as to why KABC-TV, Adrienne
Alpert's employer, was not named in her lawsuit against various
ENG equipment manufacturers. According to KGTV's web posting,
"The lawsuit does not name Alpert's current employer, KABC-TV,
which is subject to workers' compensation proceedings and cannot
be sued in Superior Court, the lawyer said."

Phil Kane, an attorney and past Engineer in Charge of the
FCC's San Francisco District Field Office, confirms that KABC
is shielded by saying:

"Yup...the only exception in California is when the employer
does not carry workmans comp ("W/C") insurance (usually when
s/he claims that the "employee" is an "independent contractor"
rather than an employee subject to W/C) and then it's "take 'em
to the cleaners' time. In my experience handling such cases the
W/C judges in California rarely find that the employee is really
an "independent contractor.""

SATELLITE PHOTO OF THE WORLD AT NIGHT - WITHOUT CLOUDS

Mike Morris and Charlie Gallagher have both forwarded this
URL for a very impressive night photo of the earth taken from
space:

  http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/image/0011/earthlights_dmsp_big.jpg

This is undoubtedly a composite of many satellite photos
carefully stitched together because so much of the earth is
masked by clouds. A similar photo was published in hard copy a
few years ago, but the result looks much more impressive on a
computer screen. It is one of the most amazing and inspirational
photographs that we have ever seen.

Again, Happy Holidays and a healthy and prosperous 2001!
