  EXPERIENCED RADIO ENGINEER AVAILABLE

Radio Engineer with over 20 years of FM/AM experience is
looking for a new opportunity. I have experience with multiple
studio builds, AM directionals and lots of FM transmitters
including building new sites.

Would prefer a position in the greater L.A. area (live in
Pasadena) but all inquiries are welcome.

If you have an opening for a highly qualified engineer -
and a downright decent guy - please e-mail me at:

RE: TRANSCRIBING OBSOLETE VIDEO TAPE FORMATS

A number of CGC Communicator readers replied to Fred Vobbe's

CLARIFICATION ON THE KFMB-FM 10% POWER STORY

Last week, we reported that KFMB-FM had been operating at
10% power "for much of the week" and that a new transmitter
was being installed. Our normally reliable sources of
information were apparently not fully informed on the events,
and this week KFMB-FM's CE, Mike Somerville, clarifies what
happened. His letter is posted at:

THE AFFINITY BETWEEN BIRDS AND TOWERS

In the nine miserable months I spent in south Texas (it's very
flat there), towers routinely go to 500 - 1500 feet. Even our
cell towers were often close to 200 ft. and, being hurricane
country, they were guyed. Add a major (bird) migration route and
you have a significant bird kill - OF A BIRD THAT WAS SO
OVERPOPULATED THAT THE FORESTRY DEPARTMENT WAS KILLING THEM WITH
POISON TO TRY TO BRING THEIR LEVELS DOWN TO WHAT THE ENVIRONMENT
COULD SUPPORT!! Why the overpopulation? The tree hugger's
'conservation policies,' of course. They still were outraged at
the tower issue, of course.

McCullough and Bill Eitel, W6UF (deceased), paired up to start
Eitel-McCullough -- EIMAC -- in the 1930s after building a tube
