  MOVING FORWARD

The CGC Communicator is continuing its regular publication
schedule despite the devastating terrorist attacks which
demolished New York's World Trade Center, seriously damaged the
Pentagon and caused a yet-to-be determined loss of life.

Many of the stories included below were prepared before
the attacks occurred, but two are directly related to the
incidents, and are timely enough to warrant publication of
the newsletter at this time (we had seriously considered
suspending publication this week).

Our hearts and thoughts are with the families of those
individuals who lost their lives, and with those many who
suffered serious injuries as a consequence of the terrorist
activities.

KGTV'S MASTER CONTROL IS (IN PART) IN INDIANAPOLIS

Just over a year ago, San Diego SBE Chapter 36 posted a
fascinating story which began by saying, "....KGTV says that
what you see on Channel 10 will soon largely be coming from
somewhere else." See:

  http://www.sbe36.org/2000/0506_kgtv.html

Now, more than a year later, it appears that SBE's prediction
is in part true, but the remote-master-control point is
Indianapolis (not Denver as SBE speculated), and Worthington Dodge
commercials still reside in San Diego (not at some distant point).

According to local reports, four KGTV job positions have
been lost due to the shift in master control locations, and
communication to/from Indianapolis is reportedly via Sprint.

One major next step for KGTV is ParkerVision, see:

  http://www.parkervision.com /

....and click on the Video Headline for 8/10/01 entitled,
"McGraw-Hill Broadcasting Group Purchases ParkerVision's PVTV
Studio Systems; Four ABC Affiliates To Use PVTV Systems."
KGTV is specifically named, and apparently will "standardize its
live news production control rooms on [ParkerVision's] PVTV
STUDIO NEWS platforms."

  CROWN RESTRUCTURING AT K35DG

Sherman George of UCSD-TV (K35DG, La Jolla) reports that
the problem with his transmitter going off the air intermittently
has been traced to a tree that had encroached into the station's
microwave path. He writes, "The tree trimmers should start on
the trimming today [Monday]."

In case you did not know, tree trimming is a very sensitive
topic at the University of California. When a tree crew is asked
to top a tree, the foreman will quickly explain that they do not
top a tree; they "restructure the crown."
