1,627 FOOT TOWER COLLAPSES IN MISSOURI

FORDLAND, MO. -- A 1,627-foot broadcast tower toppled to
the ground Friday morning, 11/30, from the weight of a foot
of ice after several days of freezing rain. KDEB, Channel 27,
and KTXR, 101.3 MHz, had broadcast from the tower.

Pieces of the 33-year-old tower now litter the ground. It
collapsed on itself like an accordion, and no one was around
at the time of the disaster. Story and pictures at:

FCC ENFORCEMENT BUREAU - LIST OF ACTIONS TAKEN

An unusual item this month was the disturbance of an
AM broadcast station's antenna pattern (WWC License LLC, Rapid

MYSTERIOUS LAND-MOBILE STATIONS IN THE LOS ANGELES TV BAND

The FCC's CDBS database lists seven land-mobile facilities
which share channels with Los Angeles TV stations. The affected
channels are 26, 32, 36, 42, 48, 60 and 66, impacting KSFV-LP,
KDOC-DT, KNBC-DT, KWHY-DT, KOCE-DT, KCBS-DT and KCOP-DT.

Who do these land-mobile facilities belong to, and are they
active? Could these listings reflect ancient applications that
are still "hanging around" as outdated place markers? If so,
can they be deleted now?

See the assignments for yourself by visiting:
< http://www.fcc.gov/mmb/vsd/tvq.html >. Go directly to the blue
box at page bottom, and do a 35 km search about the KNBC
coordinates of 34-13-32, 118-03-52. (The output will be sorted
by channel number.)

Please forward any information about the land-mobile
stations to Ray Mascho at KCBS-TV: < rpmascho@kcbstv.cbs.com >.

RE THE XM SATELLITE LA JOLLA BOOSTER ANTENNA

Here are some details of the XM transmitter on Mt. Soledad
(the La Jolla gap-filler mentioned in CGC #487): The call sign
is WB2XCA, 2332.5-2345 MHz at 31 watts ERP, antenna at 60 feet,
model 7A2350LCC. The site supervisor said that this was a backup
transmitter that would only be fired up if there were reception
problems in the area. As of last report, it was not powered up.

RE THE NEW FCC SEARCH ENGINE

Re CGC #488: It looks like the search engine [the FCC is]
now using is the Webinator < http://www.webinator.com >. I've been
using it for quite a while on my FCC rules and it works very
nicely. Much better than what the FCC was using, which seemed
to return everything except what you were looking for.

RE THE XM ANTENNA GLUE PROBLEM

While I'm not familiar with the XM antenna, I have a lot of
experience with glass mounted cellular antennas.... Car windows
need careful cleaning before attempting to adhere anything. They
can get pretty gunked up without you realizing it.

Tobacco smoke is the worst offender, of course, but even
a non-smoker will have a film on their windows. All of the
plastics in the interior [of a car] give off chemicals called
"plasticizers" which deposit themselves on the windows.

So, clean windows carefully with alcohol, and dry them well
before you do any gluing. And watch the temperature: not too
warm, and not too cool.

  "GONER" VIRUS INFECTS LOCAL COMPANY

It appears that at least one of the computers at Western
Technical Services ("WTS") has been infected with the "Goner
Virus" which self-replicated and e-mailed itself on Tuesday to
everyone on the company's e-address list. The mailing was
undoubtedly not instigated by WTS; rather, it was a byproduct
of the virus itself.

The message with the contaminated attachment had the subject
of "Hi!" and the text started with the words "How are you ?
When I saw this screen saver, I immediately thought about
you...." As usual, if you did not open the attachment, there
was no problem. Read about the Goner Virus at:

  INTERNET TRAFFIC REPORT

The following web site tells you which regions of the
Internet are currently slowed down. The Internet Traffic Report
monitors the flow of data around the world. It then displays a
value between zero and 100. Higher values indicate faster and
more reliable connections:
