KSON TOWER PHOTOS - AND MORE INFO ON KFI & KSON COMING SOON
The purpose of this newsletter is to catch up on some of
the items regularly covered by this newsletter. Our "in-box"
is overflowing with year-end stuff.
The next newsletter (CGC #669) is scheduled to do more
catch up work and provide you with updated information on the
KFI and KSON tower disasters.
Today we have a number of "after disaster" KSON photographs
to share.
The KSON self-supporting tower was "one of the coolest-
looking graveyard towers anywhere" according to Scott Fybush,
perhaps referring to the automobile impound yard at the base
of the tower structure as a graveyard for cars. Now, however,
the KSON tower isn't so elegant, and has become a mere
inverted-V.
Following are two picture pages of "after the fall" photos,
with contributions by Steve Blodgett, Bill Lipis, Rick Bosscher
and Doug Shaw:

To see the KSON tower before the fall, use the URL below and
scroll down to the second photo from the bottom:

Steve, Bill, Rick, Doug and Scott: Thank you for taking
time out of your busy schedules to document this extraordinary
event. Hopefully the affected stations will return to the air
soon using the intact portion of the tower, after the inverted-V
section is removed.

DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR FILING FIRST ROUND DTV CHANNEL ELECTIONS
The FCC has granted a more-time request filed by the
Association for Maximum Service Television, Inc. and has extended
the deadline for First Round DTV Channel Elections to January 27,
2005. Thus, FCC Form 382, which is now available for filing on
the FCC's website, may be filed any time through January 27, 2005.

UNLICENSED DEVICES IN TV SPECTRUM - MORE TIME FOR REPLIES
On May 25, the FCC released a Notice of Proposed Rule
Making seeking comments on proposed Part 15 rule changes to allow
unlicensed devices to operate in the broadcast television spectrum
at locations where that spectrum is not being used. Although the
deadline for Comments has passed, the Reply Comment deadline has
been extended 30 days beyond the current December 30 deadline.

the first half of 2004 for a total of 32 million lines in service.

COMMENTING ON THE USE OF CELLPHONES ABOARD AIRCRAFT
The public is not so sure that using cellular telephones
aboard aircraft is a good idea because it would shatter one of
the few remaining cellular-free havens in America, and people
seem intent on making that view known to the Commission NOW.
Keep in mind that the FCC has yet to issue its Notice of
Proposed Rule Making that would ordinarily open the gates for
comments. See how the Commission is handling this tricky
issue by using the URLs below:
