FCC ANNOUNCES AGENDA FOR ITS LOW POWER FM FORUM
The LPFM forum to be held in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday,
February 8, now has a published agenda available at the first
URL below. The second URL tells you how to listen to the
webcast of this curious event.

FCC CREATES DIGITAL TV CALL SIGN SUFFIXES
FCC Rule Section 74.791 (new) explains how digital low power
TV stations and digital TV translator stations will be assigned
call sign suffixes.
Using K12AB (a standard-issue call sign) and KXYZ (a requested
call sign) as examples:
K12AB-D represents a digital low power TV station or a
digital TV translator station. That seems easy enough.
Hang on now. If a requested call sign (e.g. "KXYZ") is
used on a digital low power TV station, the FCC has decided
that the assigned call will be KXYZ-LD.
Plus, there is another little caveat. If we are dealing
with a requested call sign (e.g. "KXYZ") on a Class A digital
low power TV station, the assigned call will be KXYZ-CD.
What happened to the good old days when "CD" was just a
chili dog?

  CONNECTICUT EVACUATION ORDERED BY EAS
HARTFORD, Conn. - Despite what residents may have seen
on television, the state of Connecticut was not evacuated on
Tuesday, February 1, 2005. Apparently a worker entered the
wrong (evacuation) code in what was intended to be a routine
weekly EAS test. It would be interesting to find out how much
attention the public paid to the evacuation notice.

PROGRESS IN RESOLVING "PERFECT FIT" INTERFERENCE
Bruce Rogers of Escondido, CA has been making slow but
steady progress in eliminating the RFI created by his Perfect
Fit mattress warmer power supplies. Bruce now reports that the
replacement supplies provided by Perfect Fit Industries no longer
cause interference to his ham receiver, his portable phone or his
FM radio tuned to KIFM, and that the remaining interference to
his ham station is believed to be coming from a crib mattress
warmer located elsewhere in his neighborhood. Fixing that problem
is the next item on his list. Bruce's complete report is at:

ANOTHER POWER OUTAGE AT MT. WILSON
You may recall the Southern California Edison power outage
in early January that was partially responsible for knocking
multiple Mt. Wilson broadcast stations off the air (CGC #671).
Now, Edison has had another failure.
The latest power outage on Mt. Wilson was from about noon
on 2/3/05 to about 8 a.m. on 2/4/05. As one engineer put it,
"So much for Edison's ads promoting reliability."
