PLANNED MT. WILSON POWER OUTAGE THIS MONDAY
Question (from a broadcast engineer): We were notified by
postcard that there is a planned outage on Monday, Nov. 19th,
between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Mt. Wilson. Please confirm the
schedule and provide any additional information you have.
Answer (from So. Cal. Edison): Yes, we are planning on
replacing some of the switchgear within the substation that
will allow for additional automation and, hopefully, reduce the
likelihood of extended outages (as was experienced early this
year). We're also performing some switching that will allow our
future improvements to the line coming up the hill from Altadena
area to be worked on over the next couple of months without
requiring any other similar brief outages to let our crews
work safer.
The planned outage for Monday should not be for the entire
8am-5pm time period though. In fact, it will likely be only a
momentary outage (i.e. 3-5 minutes) and probably in the early
to mid-afternoon time period. Sorry I can't be more detailed
than that.
Sorry for this inconvenience. We're certainly expecting that
this short term pain on Monday will lead to significant long-term
gain over the next 10-20 years of operations up there. Thanks.
