COMMISSIONER ADELSTEIN TO VISIT L.A. ON MONDAY
This planned visit concerns the DTV transition and is part
of an extensive nationwide tour focusing on markets with high
levels of over-the-air television viewers.
The FCC identified target television markets for specific
DTV outreach programs, including all those markets in which more
than 100,000 households or at least 15% of households rely
solely on over-the-air signals for television reception.

DTV DELAY ACT COMMENT BY COMMISSIONER ADELSTEIN
"I applaud the action by Congress to give us more time....
We remain far from ready... this national transition has been
mismanaged.... The extension to June 12, 2009, gives us time
to complete the work already begun under the leadership of
Chairman Copps...."

DTV DELAY ACT COMMENT BY COMMISSIONER MCDOWELL
"Today, a majority of the directly elected representatives
of the American people, the U.S. Congress, has clearly expressed
its desire to postpone the deadline for the cessation of analog
full-power television broadcasts to June 12, 2009...."

FCC RULES THAT MUST BE FOLLOWED FOR A PREMATURE SWITCH
You need to let the FCC know by February 9 and must air
at least 120 PSAs before the switch -- but there are other
important considerations given in the following article:

INITIAL THOUGHTS ON THE JUNE 12, 2009 SWITCH DATE
The following comments have been received by the CGC
Communicator regarding the DTV switch date.
While specific comments are valuable to our frequency
and spectral monitoring lab, we will not publish names and
call signs unless given specific permission to do so.
Here, then, are the initial comments received. They
are from two TV stations that happen to serve the greater Los
Angeles area:
o [We] intend to shutoff our analog transmitter June 12th,
2009, unless the LA market decides to shutoff earlier.
o At this time [our station] plans on staying on air until
June 12th. I believe we as a market will have a conference call
next week and I will pass on the call-in information when I
receive it.

  COMMENT FROM OREGON
Since I'm from [southern California], I'd be interested
in knowing what is going on [with the DTV switch date plans].
I do know that ALL Eugene, OR full powers will make the change
on February 17, 2009. I'm not sure about Portland or any of
the other markets in Oregon.
