FCC SOFTWARE GLITCH IMPACTS THE DAILY DIGEST
During the week of May 4-8, 2009, txt and pdf files from
the FCC's Daily Digest became garbled on some computer operating
systems. Turns out the Commission went to a completely J2EE based
implementation that would allow them to incorporate many new
features and capabilities and automate more processes. Thanks to
a responsive FCC staff, the garbled files were remedied on short
order and all is well once again, as far as we know.

CLEARING BIG TRUCKS FOR ACCESS TO MT. WILSON
In reference to the closure of Angeles Crest Highway between
La Canada and Mt. Wilson Rd., I have been trying to get a permit
for a big rig with no success. I have talked to many people at
CHP and Cal Trans and have worked my way up to the District
Director of District 7 of Cal Trans, Doug Failing, and have
received nothing.
Doug's phone number is (213) 897-0362 (his assistant is Mario)
and his e-mail is doug.failing (at) dot.ca.gov. I have also been
talking to Frank Quon at the same phone number.
If we join together, we may be able to help all of us!

ANOTHER BIG RIG ACCIDENT NEAR MT. WILSON
I don't know if this will have any impact on our abilities
to get big rigs up to the mountain, but there was an accident
today (May 11) involving a truck on the Angles Forest Hwy.
Here is the link if you want to see the photos I have posted.
Again, I don't know if this will hurt us or not, just thought
you might want to know about it.

BILL ELLEDGE OF KUCR(FM) PASSES AWAY
It is with great sadness that KUCR reports the passing of
William (Bill) Elledge, a founder of KUCR(FM) in 1965 at the
University of California, Riverside. He was also the station's
Chief Engineer from 1968-2009. Station manager Louis Vandenberg
summoned UC Riverside police to Bill's home after he failed to
return phone calls and answer the door.
Bill reportedly had no family he was close to, all having
passed on. KUCR, and some few other friends, including a Los
Angeles-based broadcast engineer, were Bill's family. According
to Louis Vandenberg, "Bill was somewhere between a brother and
father for a number of us at the university. And he touched
the lives of many others, including thousands of students who
passed through KUCR over the years."
